On 14 July 2026, the NMC released the updated seat matrix of MBBS seats for 2026-27 by increasing 9,911 new seats. After this major increase, India now has 1,36,939 MBBS seats in private, government, JIPMER, AIIMS, and all other institutes. Before this seat revision from NMC, approximately 1,18,190 MBBS seats were available in India for students to fill.
