In NEET, tie-breaking rules resolve situations where multiple candidates score the same marks. Ranks are decided using the criteria below, applied in order:
- The candidate with higher marks in Biology (Botany + Zoology) is ranked higher.
- If the tie persists, the candidate with higher marks in Chemistry is ranked higher.
- If the tie persists, the candidate with higher marks in Physics is ranked higher.
- If candidates remain tied, the one with the lower ratio of incorrect to correct answers across all subjects is ranked higher.
- Next, the same ratio criterion is applied to Biology.
- If needed, the same ratio criterion is applied to Chemistry.
- If the tie continues, the same ratio criterion is applied to Physics.
- If a tie remains unresolved after all the above criteria, it is settled through a computerised random process under the supervision of an independent expert committee.
What to do After NEET 2026 Results Declaration?
Now that the NEET 2026 exam result has been announced, candidates with good marks can prepare to participate in the NEET 2026 counselling process. A candidate can participate in the All-India Quota (AIQ) and state counselling process. As per your rank, you can apply to these categories of counselling.
